The 2021 Champion The Truth Collection
A limited-edition collaboration launching just in time for National Newspaper Week!
The Champion The Truth signed print is an exclusive, limited-edition, custom piece of art by renowned Canadian artist Ola Volo made in partnership with News Media Canada, the association that represents the Canadian news media industry. Ola’s signed 20” x 19.5” print titled “Champions” is launching as the hero item in this year’s Champion The Truth collection, which also includes a softcover journal.
“Champions” features three stoic, trailblazing characters representing journalists and readers, as well as multiple landmarks from across the country to celebrate the diversity of people, places, and perspectives in Canada. It demonstrates the ability of newspapers to connect local communities and inform Canadians with trusted information from coast to coast to coast. This piece highlights the essential service that newspapers provide and the importance of independent Canadian news media to uphold democracy. Ola’s art was inspired by conversations between Ola and industry stakeholders from local newspapers across the country and celebrates the local news industry as champions of the truth in Canada.
To support Canadian journalism, a portion of the proceeds from the sales of the 2021 Champion The Truth collection will be donated to Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE). Learn more about CJFE at cjfe.org.

ARTIST STATEMENT
I’ve always been a proud supporter and reader of local newspapers. As a child and Canadian immigrant, I fondly remember my parents reading the local news every morning to stay connected to our community. And now as an artist, these same newspapers that provided me with this sense of connection have been supporters of me and my art, for years. My “Champions” artwork is a tribute to the amazing work they do, day in and day out, to keep communities across our country informed.
This piece was created to recognize Canadian news media for their incredible work and the essential service their reporting provides year-round. “Champions” features three stoic, trailblazing characters that represent both journalists and readers. You’ll also see a variety of iconic landmarks from across the country featured in this piece which represents and celebrates the diversity of people, places, and perspectives in Canada, and the fact that newspapers connect readers from coast-to-coast- to coast.
